Eighty-six percent of all the companies on the FORTUNE 500SM
list have at least one toll-free number.

800 is Preferred to 888, 877 or 866

The 800 prefix is by far the favorite of FORTUNE 500SM
companies, with 80% of them having at least one 800 number. Twenty
percent have numbers with an alternative prefix (888, 877 or 866.)

Fifty-five percent of all the companies on the FORTUNE 500SM
list have two or more toll-free numbers.

list have a vanity number.

Of the companies with toll-free numbers, 40% of them have a vanity 800
number, 13% of them have a vanity 888 number, 7% of them have a vanity
877 number and 1% of them have a vanity 866 number.
92% of Companies with a Non-Vanity Number use the 800 Prefix

Ninety-two percent of all the companies with a non-vanity toll-free
number use the 800 prefix.

Financial, Energy, Computer, and Insurance Industries are the Most Frequent
Users of Toll-free Numbers
By industry, there are some leaders in using toll-free numbers as response
mechanisms. Ninety-four percent of financial companies have them, as do
82% of energy companies, 78% of computer companies, and 75% of insurance
providers.
